In a miserable world, humour is all we have left. I realised this yesterday whilst watching Charlie Brooker’s review of 2014 which, although consisting almost entirely of events of the utmost despair, was strangely uplifting. There is great power in a good joke and the ability to make light of the dark may be the very last tool we possess against the seemingly unstoppable evil forces that dominate each one of the screens we surround ourselves with.
