Game of Thrones scripts leaked by hackers demanding ransom

US television network HBO have been targeted by hackers who have released 3.4GB of files, including the phone numbers and emails of Game of Thrones actors.
In a video letter to HBO CEO Richard Plepler, the hackers demand a ransom of several million dollars in bitcoin, saying that if the network does not pay within three days they will release a further 1.5 terabytes of confidential corporate data.
The actors’ emails and phone numbers were released along with the video, as well as files including scripts from five Game of Thrones episodes and internal network and administrator passwords.
The data appears to include the phone number and email addresses of actors Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clark.
Earlier this week The Guardian reported that journalists had received an anonymous email on Sunday from the hackers that read: “Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling.”
“Any intrusion of this nature is obviously disruptive, unsettling, and disturbing for all of us,” CEO Richard Plepler wrote. “I can assure you that senior leadership and our extraordinary technology team, along with outside experts, are working round the clock to protect our collective interests.”
The hackers claim that they earn $12-15 million a year by blackmailing organisations whose security they’ve breached. They claim that this particular breach was through a hole in the network not yet known to Microsoft or other software companies.
In the past few weeks, unaired episodes of Game of Thrones have appeared on the internet, but The Verge reports that this recent hack is not connected to those episode leaks.

  1. Hello Tarn,
It’s pretty sad to see the activity of hackers regarding Game of Thrones and I am afraid if the HBO takes very hard step then we, the people who are downloading the seasons from torrent sites will face problem.

    Let’s for the best!
